Tours

The club aims to provide two tours a year, one during winter and one in the summer, for you to expand upon and improve your mountaineering skills. These weeks are, without a doubt, the highlight of our year.

Winter Tour

Each year at the end of December or start of January, the club organises a trip to the Scottish Highlands for some beginner friendly winter mountaineering. This is an excellent week to get away with the club. Winter walking in the Scottish Highlands is truly special and an experience you really do not want to miss!

Previous winter mountaineering experience is not necessary to come on the trip. However, we do require all first time participants to attend the skillz for the hillz sessions in term 1, in which we’ll cover some basic navigation, winter skills, decision making and more. Those who have not been on tour before will also have to demonstrate they are a competent mountaineer and navigator before gaining a place. This may sound intimidating, but don’t let this put you off, we can help you develop your skills before hand!

Additionally, if this is your first taste of winter mountaineering then you will need to take a beginners' course on the first day of the week. This course will be organised by the Tour Sec and given by a professional instructor. For more experienced members there will be the option to do an advanced course.

Finally, the week is of slightly different structure to our usual trips, as there are no walk leaders, so with the exception of the courses at the beginning of the trip, the week is yours to do what you please! We can't wait to see you!
