Training
As a society, we are reliant on enthusiastic members with experience in the mountains to lead walks. Such 'Walk Leaders' have completed Mountain Leader Training and a suitable first aid course.
Might this be for me?
If you have a passion for the mountains and have enjoyed trips and tours with the society or elsewhere, and think you might be interested in becoming a walk leader, please feel free to have a chat to any of the current walk leaders about their experiences acting as a walk leader.

Becoming a Walk Leader gives you the opportunity to plan and lead your own walks and scrambles.

Walk leaders typically have at least a year's experience of hillwalking, and have an interest in leading groups in the mountains.

There will be a presentation at some point early in the spring term giving an overview of everything being a Walk Leader entails.

Please register interest in becoming a Walk Leader before the end of term 2 - there will be a form in the weekly newsletter to do so.
I'm Interested.
Please let us know!
There will be opportunities to plan and lead walks on trips in order to gain experience.

Mountain Training has a minimum requirement of 20 QMDs for training, but there are plenty of opportunities to accumulate these on trips.

As a Walk Leader, you are often solely responsible for the safety of your group, and so being able to appropriately conduct yourself to ensure the safety of yourself and others is essential.
We offer a subsidy towards the Mountain Training course, and fully cover the cost of an appropriate outdoor first aid course.
